Lakshwadeep
Lakshadweep is an Indian union territory and a tropical archipelago of 36 islands and coral reefs located around 400 km off the coast of Kerala in the Arabian Sea. It is noticeable that not all the islands are inhabited, and only a few are open to visitors with permits only. Being Kerala at the closest proximity to Lakshadweep, food, and cuisines here are influenced significantly by flavors, ingredients, and style of Kerala’s cuisine and food.
- Mus Kavaab - The dish is made from a boneless fish- mus, marinated with a paste made with ground coconut, turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, cloves, and cardamoms. Then these pieces are cooked with sautéed onions and flavored with curry leaves, cherry tomato, and salt. This curry-kavaab best served hot with rice or chapatti bread providing satisfaction to your taste buds.
- Octopus Fry - Octopus fry is a famous dish prepared here. This dish is made by adding green chillies, garlic and salt to baby octopus. A sauce is prepared from the already taken variety of spices and then served alongside the fried octopus.
- Fish Tikka- For seafood lovers, fish tikka is something to die for. And here in Lakshadweep, it is in abundance and of high reputation. Fish is marinated with variety of spices such as chilly, ginger, garlic and cloves and salt. Later it is grilled in a tandoor or on a griller and then served hot to fulfil the ravenous appetite.
- Fish Pakora: Fish pakora is made with boneless fish . The fish is first taken, marinated with salt, and then fried in oil by making a gram flour, turmeric, & salt batter.
- Massu Podichath - Maasu denotes dried tuna. Maasu podichath is a regional dish of Lakshadweep islands. Massu Podicath is made by cutting the dried tuna fish into small pieces and later mixed with grinded coconut, onion, garlic chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. It is served best with either rice or roti.
