DAMAN & DIU
The ex-Portuguese abode of Daman is a world of its own. It is a paradise for wanderlusts searching for peace, solitude and serenity. The charm of this place lies in its fine forts and churches, in which you can get a whiff of Portuguese preeminence.
While Diu situated off the southern tip of the Saurashtra (Kathiawad) peninsula of Gujarat and surrounded by the Arabian Sea, Diu is a picturesque island for those in quest of a graced land, replete with majestic beaches, whitewashed fishing cottages and excellent roads to ride along the coast with the wind blowing in your hair.
•Fish Koliwada
Fish Koliwada,a spicy fried prawns dish, is said to have its origin in Daman and tingles the taste buds with its mild and subtle flavor. The fish pieces are first marinated for about half an hour, dipped in a spicy batter and then deep fried.
•Jetty roll
Jetty Roll is the main specialty which is a local version of Kathi kebab rolls. They are said to have been brought to the region by a Bengali cook and were later adapted to suit the local taste and flavors.
•Papri
A crispy and flaky dish, papri is one of the most popular evening snacks of Daman. It is generally eaten with a serving of yoghurt and tamarind chutney.
•Chicken bullet
Chicken bullet is a crispy fried golden brown chicken nuggets cut in the shape of long bullets is a famous snack in the region.

•Dhansak
Dhansak is a popular Indian dish, originating among the Parsi Zoroastrian community. It combines elements of Persian and Gujarati cuisine. Dhansak is made by cooking mutton or goat meat with a mixture of lentils and vegetables. This is served with caramelised brown rice, which is rice cooked in caramel water to give it a typical taste and colour. The dal cooked with mutton and vegetables served with brown rice, altogether is called dhansak.
•Silver pomfret fry
Silver pomfret, largest of its kind found in the country when prepared by in house spices and deep fried is certainly a delight to have it any time of the day.
•Cozido de peixe a fish stew & Caldinho de Camarao – shrimp soup are a few Portuguese dishes in Diu, that are in great demand.
