Delhi has been the capital of India for 100 years, The British moved the capital from Kolkata to Delhi and after the Independence of India, it continued to be the capital. Delhi is a blend of glorious ancient past and modern day infrastructure.
The history of Delhi goes back to ancient India.
Delhi has also been ruled by Afghan khiljis and Moguls who built the famous Red Fort in Delhi which is a UNESCO world heritage.
The infrastructural development of Delhi continued in the British colonial era developed the planned area for British officers designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, Who designed the beautiful palace for the home of the British Viceroy and now known as Rashtrapati Bhavan the house of the President of India.
While Delhi has its glorious history and heritage, It is also a modern city and home to the best of the food and night-life to enjoy, and the best of the country's hotels to cater to travelers and diplomats from all over the world
- India Gate – Just a couple of kilometers away from Rashtrapati Bhavan and right in the middle of Delhi India Gate was built in memory of British Indian Army soldiers who were martyred in world war one, This is the very place located on the Rajpath where the yearly Parade gets organized on Republic day of India.
- Red Fort – This beautiful fort was completed in the year 1648 when the Mughal emperor moved the capital of the Mughal empire from Agra to Delhi Red Fort was their home, This iconic monument is the very place from where the yearly celebration of Indian independence is being celebrated since 1947 by performing the flag ceremony, This beautiful and elegant architecture of Mogul era was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2007.
- Chandni Chowk – It’s a historic area that grew over the Mogul period as it is located right opposite Red Fort and is now the famous market for Ethnic clothes and best of the Indian food, The area is a bit overcrowded but a paradise for shopping and food lovers.
- Qutub Minar – A UNESCO World Heritage, The Qutub Minar was built in 1220 the tallest tower built on brick is one of the iconic monuments of Delhi and a must visit place for visitors. This 800 year old structure has survived many rules and dynasties and has seen political transformations of Delhi for hundreds of years and still stands tall!
- Lotus Temple - A Bahai temple designed with the shape of a lotus, This white color eminent building is been among the top visited places in the world, located in south Delhi this complex has a beautiful garden which is a corridor to reach inside, It indeed gives peace and very diving experience to visitors, It has a sitting capacity of 2500 and is been opened in 1986.
- Delhi Airport Terminal 3 – Renovated and opened in 2010 the Delhi Airport is one of the biggest Airport in the world packed with state-of-the-art amenities and infrastructure one can ask many modern day Airports, Thus the Airport has many awards, it is the best Airport of the country which is well maintained and gives the first impression to the international travelers to India with its high class ambiance and services.
- The National Zoological Park – Known as Delhi Zoo located 10 minutes drive from India Gate the Zoo is well popular with animal and bird lovers and kids also, The zoo is home to some rare species, and you can see animals like the White Tiger, Elephant, Jaguar, Rhinoceros, Lion, Deer, South African monkeys, etc., The zoo is spread over 176 acres and is very well maintained.
- National Rail Museum: National Rail Museum is situated in the region of Chanakyapuri, and it displays the extraordinary history of Indian railways and rail transport in India. The timings for National Rail Museum are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday is closed.
- Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament: An extraordinary building which is situated at Raisina Hills, is open to the public for just two days a week i.e. Saturday and Sunday. This is the official residence of the President of India. One has to visit and see how majestic these buildings are.
- Lodhi Garden: A gigantic park located in New Delhi spreads over an area of 36 hectares. The park has a name associated with Lodhi because of the tomb of Sikander Lodi being situated here. There is no entry fee to enter Lodi Gardens and it is open on all days from morning 6am to evening 8 pm.
- National Museum: National Museum is must visit destination for history and culture lovers. National Museum is famous because it has extensive lists of artifacts from the Harappan civilization and Indus Valley civilization. On record, more than 3000+ artifacts are being stored here. National Museum is closed on Mondays and for Indian national ticket fare is Rs. 20 while for foreigners its Rs. 350.
- Khan Market: Khan Market is famous because it has featured in World's top 20 most expensive retail locations. This place has shops even from the 1950s. You will find many books, antiques, tailor, and textile shops in this location.
- Humayun’s Tomb: Humayun's Tomb is a famous location as it contains the tomb of Humayun who was the 2nd Emperor of the Mughal Empire. It was built by the first wife of Humanyu, Bega Begum in the year 1558. It has a mix of Mughal and Persian architecture.
- Nightlife- Delhi offers very good nightlife and Hauz Khas is the epicenter for Nightlife lovers, The area has many high quality clubs in a row where you can enjoy drinks and dance in a very good and lively environment.
