Goan cuisine is popular for regional foods prevalent there, mainly because of the fresh ingredients that are exclusive to the region. Its an Indian state located along India's west coast on the shore of the Arabian Sea, thereby having a tropical climate making the produce flavoursome. Rice, seafood, coconut, vegetables, meat, pork and local spices are some of the main ingredients in Goan cuisine.
Goan Fish Curry - Colloquially called Xitti Kodi. it is the staple food of Goan people. It is loaded with coconut and spices. Kokum is used to give it a tangy edge to it. Instead of pomfret, Kingfish or prawns are also used.
Pork Vindaloo - Following the fish-curry-rice, this is probably the most iconic dishes in the list of traditional Goan cuisines. Vin stands for vinegar and Aloo (aloh) stands for garlic. The dish comprises of a red hot gravy with pork meat.

Shark Ambot Tik - The meaning of Ambot is sour and tik is spicy in portugese and here comes another portugese influenced delicious dish from Goa, made with fish that has less bones or cartilenagenous, the Ambot Tik. So here the most common and exotic fish found in the region is used i.e shark meat.

Chicken xacuti- Made up of chicken, potatoes, onions and coconut, this is yet another Portuguese influenced dish with loads of spices in it. Kashmiri chilies are used to give it a spicy taste.
Goan prawn curry - perfect tropical take on the most beloved crustaceans I.e prawn or shrimps. it is a tangy spicy curry made using shrimps, a variety of spices, and coconut milk. Some people use tamarind as the souring agent and some use kokum.

Crab Xacuti - This dish is pretty similar to Chicken Xacuti, except the chicken is replaced with a crab. This is a very popular dish amongst the foodie travelers!.
Sannas - Essentially a seet idli at first glance and taste. It includes coconut and are entirely made up of rice. Sannas usually compliments all the other Goan dishes.
Bebinca – It is the most famed Goan desert. It is essentially a multi-layered cake made up of egg, coconut milk, sugar and ghee. It is also traditionally served during Christmas eve.


Sorpotel -Soro translates to alcohol or liquor. Pork or lamb meat is used to make this dish. The meat is parboiled and the fat is fried, along with the traditional spices to give it a Goan feel.

Goan Feni - Goan Feni is a popular, locally-brewed alcoholic beverage. Feni are of two types, one is made from coconut and the other one from cashews. It is a pretty strong beverage and must try for all the food enthusiasts!
